Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:30pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Becoming a Bodhisattva
A Series on the Six Paramitas

This week at Sangha Night we begin our new series “Becoming a Bodhisattva”. Together we will explore: What is a Bodhisattva? How does one become a Bodhisattva? What is Bodhicitta? How does the Bodhicitta arise? How is any of this relevant to our spiritual practice in this modern day?

Over the next eight weeks we will keep these questions in mind as we learn about the Six Paramitas, or six perfections. The Paramitas (Generosity, Ethics, Patience, Vigor, Meditation, and Wisdom) are transcendental virtues and when practiced move a Bodhisattva toward Enlightenment. These practices of a Bodhisattva can echo in our own spiritual life as we too create the conditions for wisdom and compassion to arise.

“The Bodhisattva ideal recognizes that to gain Enlightenment we must develop both wisdom and compassion, both the self-regarding and the other-regarding aspects of the spiritual life. This is the basic polarity: Enlightenment within, through wisdom, manifesting without, through compassion. And this is the nature of the Bodhisattva, the one who is intent upon enlightenment for the sake of all beings.”
~ Sangharakshita, The Bodhisattva Ideal

Join us each week as we explore the Paramitas and how we can practice them in our own lives.

All are welcome!
