Sangha Night … On Zoom … Wednesdays 6:45pm – 8:30pm

Please join us Wednesday evenings, online, as we explore the Anapanasati Sutta.
According to the Buddha, this is the way to deep insight and tranquility using the breath.
Through this practice Mindfulness of Breathing, “One realizes that this body which exercises the two functions of in-breathing and out-breathing is only a body, not an ego or “I”. This mindfulness and wisdom become helpful in developing greater and more profound mindfulness and wisdom, enabling him to discard the erroneous conceptions of things in terms of “I” and “mine.” One then becomes skilled in living with wisdom in respect of this body and one does not grasp anything in the world with craving, conceit or false views. Living unattached, the meditator treads the path to Nibbana by contemplating the nature of the body.”
The Anapanasati Sutta is composed of sixteen contemplations, which divide neatly into four sets of four. The first four contemplations concern the awareness of breathing as it manifests in the body.
The next four focus on feelings—not what we mean by that word in our culture, but everything that we perceive by means of our sense organs.
The third set of four focuses on the mind, the mental formations and emotions that we concoct when we add ideas to our feelings.
And the last four move on to pure vipassana, seeing into the lawfulness underlying all phenomena.
Basic to all of these contemplations is the breath, which is used in them as an anchor, and a reminder, to keep the practitioner in the present moment.
