Monday Evening Meditation
Our weekly, drop-in events are an opportunity for everyone—from new meditators to long-time Buddhists—to enjoy a session of meditation and discussion of Buddhists teachings.
More information
There is no expectation that people attending Nagaloka will be Buddhists or agree with all Buddhist teachings. Our events provide an opportunity to learn-and-test-out Buddhist practices in the light of one’s own experience, and in an atmosphere of friendly, encouraging, open communication.

What to expect
New and old friends alike are invited to join us for an evening of meditation, discussion, and community.
Enjoy 35- to 40-minutes of guided mediation. The amount of guidance is tailored to the experience level of those in the room. The meditation will either be Mindfulness-of-Breathing or the Metta Bhavana, which fosters loving kindness for ourselves and others.
To prepare for meditation, we begin with a short period of ritualistic chanting (handout); this helps us transition to meditation and reminds us of how we wish to live. A short reading may then be offered. The meditation portion of the evening usually ends with us reciting the Transference of Merit to express our desire to be of benefit to all beings.
A short break for refreshments occurs while those who wish to stay for discussion move to a different room.
The discussion portion of the evening involves a check-in, followed by a brief teaching and/or open discussion about your efforts to meditate and apply Buddhist practices in daily life.
On special occasions, Monday evenings feature guest speakers or devotional ceremonies.
Newcomers are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early so you can be oriented and helped with your meditation seating.
All are welcome! Please join us for a peaceful evening of purpose and community.
