We decided to continue not having in person meditation and study group sessions on Wednesday evening.
Instead we will be meeting online. Join us by clicking on this Zoom link on Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm . We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.
Join us to explore….this Wednesday…!
Eight Verses For Training the Mind
This week at Nagaloka’s online Sangha Night we come to the end our our series on the Eight Verses for Training the mind. We will spend time discussing the last of these verses.
Verse 8
May none of this ever be sullied
By thoughts of the eight worldly concerns.
May I see all things as illusions
And, without attachment, gain freedom from bondage.
As we have journeyed through these verses we have been encouraged to expand our self cherishing to include all beings, stretching our care and concern outward to others. We have been challenged by ill natured people, envious people, and people who have somehow betrayed us. We have willingly taken on the pain of others and wished them well and helped in anyway we can.
Now we round out our training with the reminder to not be swayed by the temptations of worldly concerns. We remind ourselves that happiness is impermanent and chasing after gain, praise, pleasure, and a good reputation or running from loss, blame, pain and a bad reputation will not help us on the path to Enlightenment. Can we see subjects, objects, and actions as illusions, as dreams, as empty of inherent existence? As we continue to let go our our clinging and attachments bit by bit, we are on our way to freedom.
