Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

All are welcome!

We will continue our exploration of Karma this week by looking at the results or fruits of our actions. Action of body, speech and mind. What we think is an action, as our mental states, positive, negative or neutral, have consequences. Our words are a gateway to our minds expressing thought/emotion often based on ‘feelings’ that are either pleasant, painful or neutral. The body is a vehicle for the mind acting through our views and beliefs and values that we carry. These ‘choices’ we make impact our worlds and future as well as those we come in contact with. Karma is a practical teaching that is the foundation of Buddhist ethics.

“Mind is chief. Mind precedes all things. If a person thinks, speaks and acts in an unskillful way, sorrow follows them like the wheel of the cart follows the ox’s hoof.

If a person thinks, speaks, and acts in a skillful way, happiness will follow like a shadow that never departs.”

This is why the practices of Mindfulness and Metta are crucial to developing a core sensitivity to ourselves and others, supporting and cultivating the discovery of kindness, generosity and wisdom, and steering away from greed, hatred and delusion. In this way, our mindful and skillful intentions help shape our future happiness.
