6:45 pm - 8:30 pm

Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:30pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

All are welcome!

Previously we peeked at the precepts of training for the body, then began an exploration of the speech precepts. This week we attend to the mind precepts of which there are four.

1)“We undertake the training principle to abstain from taking intoxicants.”

The mental state of intoxication is not confined to alcohol and drugs. Power, work, sex, youth, food, smoking, gambling and more, fall on the list of obsessions, compulsions and addictions that diminish, erode and sometimes remove our mindfulness and clarity.

The other mind precepts taken on by those in the Triratna Order are;

2)“Abandoning covetousness for tranquility I purify my mind.”
3)“Changing hatred into compassion I purify my mind.”
4)“Transforming ignorance into wisdom I purify my mind.”

Greed, hatred and ignorance combined with intoxicants in their many shades and forms helps create an unhappy life. Moving skillfully towards and cultivating mindfulness clear and radiant, tranquility, compassion and wisdom helps create a happy life.

To undertake, to commit to a training principle, something practiced in our daily lives and magnified under the brightness of meditation, we can move towards a less reactive more creative and positive response as we see deeper into both our external and internal worlds.

How do we abstain, abandon, change and transform certain aspects of our minds?
What techniques or practices do you use to ‘tame’ the mind?
