Date(s) - 29/11/2023
6:45 pm - 8:30 pm
Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:30pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.
Wednesdays 6:45pm – 8:30pm
The Five Niyamas
For the next two weeks will be investigating the 5 Niyamas or natural laws, that govern specific levels in the universe, and are an ancient expression of conditioned arising. Conditioned arising, or conditioned co production, is the fundamental expression of the Buddhas experience of Awakening. All things, from a quiet notion in our mind to a shooting star are dependent on a flow of conditions that come into being and pass away, of which the 5 Niyama’s are an expression. They represent a set of Natural Laws, or a Cosmic Order, that are self administered, no Judge, jury, or God needed to administer these natural laws.
1) The Utu Niyama; This level of inorganic non living relationships we find in Chemistry and Physics ; the Law of Gravity.
2) Bija niyama; This level is the organic living relationships we find in Biology.
3) Citta niyama; This level is the mental or mind we find in Phycology.
4) Karma Niyama; this is the level of ethical responsibility.
5) Dharma niyama; this level represent the spiral form of condition arising. The positive growth oriented aspect of conditionality.
The first four Niyamas represent the cyclic aspect of our conditioned existence of stimulus and response. The Karma Niyama is where we can make effort towards positive changes in our mental states, by becoming aware of our actions of body, speech, mind, and how we impact and create our worlds.
Please join us next Wednesday evening at Nagaloka online as we look into the first three Niyamas.
All are welcome!
