6:45 pm - 8:30 pm

Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:30pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Chapter 4: A guide for living

Last week, we discovered that the precepts are not ‘hard and fast rules’ nor are they “commandments’ we must do in order to live an ethical life. Think of the precepts as ‘something to try out for you ‘. See if it works. We take on the precepts voluntarily to strengthen our ethical practices.

For the next 3 weeks, we take a deeper dive into the individual precepts. On Wednesday, 11/16, we will begin with the body precepts. When we approach our examination of the precepts, remember to go beyond each precept’s literal meaning to some of its more subtle interpretations.

If you are following the book, Not About Being Good, we will be covering part of Chapter 4, A guide for living.

~ With deeds of loving kindness, I purify my body.

Going beyond loving kindness for all, to affirming others’ individuality. Acting from the love mode rather than the power mode.

~ With open-handed generosity, I purity my body.

Going beyond not taking the not-given or theft, to bringing generosity practices into our everyday lives.

~ With stillness, simplicity and contentment, I purify my body.

Going beyond abstaining from sexual misconduct, to developing and fostering love for yourself.

Join us for discussion, meditation and exploration.

All are welcome!
