Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Releasing the Hindrances

This Wednesday eve at Nagaloka we continue to expose the 5 Hindrances with a look at Sloth and Torpor. This hindrance is in two parts. When we feel heavy and low energy in the body, we are dealing with Sloth. When we feel sleepy and dull and stiff mentally, we are dealing with Torpor. In both cases we need to recognize what is happening and counter with antidotes to help us wake up.

Perhaps we are simply tired and need more rest and better eating habits. Perhaps it is something else that needs to be addressed. Sloth and Torpor can be countered both on and off the cushion.

These five hindrances can keep us in a circular experience of unease, not allowing for
a calm, steady, appreciative mindfulness to grow and expand.

Please join us as we explore this passive hindrance with different techniques to help cultivate and support more vitality and energy in our lives.
