We decided to continue not having in person meditation and study group sessions on Wednesday evening.

Instead we will be meeting online. Join us by clicking on this Zoom link on Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm . We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Join us to explore….this Wednesday…!

All are welcome!

The Five Spiritual Faculties

Concentration

“As we have seen, samadhi covers the whole field of what we generally call concentration and meditation. Samadhi literally means the fixation of the mind on a single object, in other words, one-pointedness of mind. However, there is nothing forced about this concentration; it is more accurately described as unification of the total energies of the psyche. Our energies are generally quite scattered. It is rarely that we are at once mentally, emotionally, and physically fully concentrated. Samadhi consists in drawing all of ourselves together into a single focus of energy. “

From What is the Dharma?

~Sangharakshita

This Wednesday evening we will continue on in our series on the Five Spiritual Faculties and focus on samadhi, or concentration. We will have time to hear about and discuss the four dhyanas, or higher states of concentration. The faculties of samadhi and virya, or concentration and energy, balance each other in practice so we can have just enough physical exertion (in pursuit of the good) and then settle into a concentrated state of mind.

Do you feel you have a balance between energy and concentration in your practice? Do you tend more towards one or the other? Are you more comfortable being active and volunteering to help or do you find yourself more drawn to a quiet sit? Perhaps your practice has shifted over time? What is your experience with samadhi and energy and how do you bring them to balance?
