Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

All are welcome!

Releasing the Hindrances

This Wednesday evening we will conclude our investigation of the hindrances by exploring the last of the five: doubt.

This is not intellectual doubt, or doubt in the sense that something is true or false. Rather, this is a doubt, an indecisiveness and willful indecision that keeps us from committing to practice. It is a kind of “keeping our options open” sort of attitude so that we can escape any kind of responsibly or commitment around something.

We may doubt meditation practice itself. “Will sitting here like this really do me any good?” We may bounce from practice to practice, never really getting on with one at all. We may doubt the teachings and ping pong from teacher to teacher, school to school, course to course, without ever wholeheartedly committing to something so that we spend enough time with it to feel the benefits. We may doubt ourselves, thinking that yes, these teachings are good and the practice is helpful for those folks, but that somehow it doesn’t match up with our own temperament or that we don’t have what it takes to really follow through.

Join us this Wednesday for an exploration of how doubt arises in your meditation practice and in your life. How does it hold you back? How does doubt affect how you make decisions and what you do with your time and how you treat others? What are the most helpful antidotes to doubt so that we can commit wholeheartedly, with all of our being, to our practice?
