We decided to continue not having in person meditation and study group sessions on Wednesday evening.

Instead we will be meeting online. Join us by clicking on this Zoom link on Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm . We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Join us to explore….this Wednesday…!

All are welcome!

The Wheel of Life
The Hungry Ghost Realm

Our Wednesday evening series continues this week with the Wheel of Life. We are looking into the mirror again as the wheel turns in samsara and we find ourselves looking into the realm of the Hungry Ghosts.

In traditional images, we find beings here with incredibly large bellies and tiny mouths. These starving wraiths are searching and searching for something to eat. Driven by voracious greed and hunger, they try to find satiety but nothing they consume satisfies their desire.

It is likely we have all found ourselves here from time to time. Have you felt down, stressed, anxious, disappointed and tried to relieve that discomfort with a drink, a pill, a snack, an online purchase? Have you ever felt a sense of lack or emptiness that you are just sure will go away with a change in your job, a new car, a better home, or a different partner? Perhaps you have felt lonely or discouraged, and the next thing you know, you have binge watched an entire series on Netflix with one episode flowing into the next?

There are many ways in our modern society for craving to carry on unchecked, scrambling for one thing right after another. Yet as we apply mindfulness, we can begin to notice that none of the things we wanted so much actually satisfy. Here we have the opportunity to look more deeply and follow the teachings of the Buddha to learn where true contentment, ease and stillness lie. Cultivating an attitude of appreciation and generosity helps us begin to loosen the tight grip of craving and open us up to connection and freedom.

Please join us this Wednesday as we continue our exploration of this ancient symbol that still glows like a beacon of light in a sometimes dark world.
