Date(s) - 10/01/2024
6:45 pm - 8:30 pm
Please join us online by Zoom, Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:30pm. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and the opportunity to be together. We will use this time for lightly guided meditation, a short check in to see how we can support one another, and exploration of a Buddhist topic. The facilitator will offer brief remarks and guide discussion as a way to focus our practice on that week’s theme. Themes may run several weeks, but each week can serve as a stand-alone session. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.
The Taste of Freedom
A practical series in freeing ourselves from what binds us.
The point of being a Buddhist is to free ourselves from whatever keeps us trapped in a mundane and repetitive cycle. But how do we do that, and what does real freedom mean?
On Wednesday night, we will continue looking at Taste of Freedom and what we can use from Bante’s talks from 50 years ago to inform our own practice in 2024. We will begin with a brief review of what ‘freedom’ means in the spiritual path. Humans have a habitual tendency to vacillate between pleasure and pain but what we might want is a deep sense of security.
We’ll look at an image of a dakini, and learn how her symbolism informs our own practice. Sangharakshita says that a dakini harnesses the energy of all the Buddhas. This energy helps us transition into the spiritual path of freedom.. The dakini represents the union of wisdom and compassion. Is there dakini energy in all of us?
Please join us on Wednesday to learn and discuss.
All are welcome!
