All are welcome for Friendship February

Our new theme for February is Spiritual Friendship. We begin this week by meeting Meghiya, an attendant of the Buddha, who very much wanted to go off on his own to meditate in a beautiful mango grove. The Buddha warned that Meghiya should stay with him, but in the end allowed Meghiya to follow his wish. Once Meghiya was alone and meditating, things did not go as he might have thought. He was assailed with all manner of craving filled daydreams and horrible fantasies. Upon returning and explaining to the Buddha what had happened, the Buddha offered Meghiya a teaching on the five things necessary for full liberation of the heart. The very first was spiritual friendship, good friends, and good companions, and the next four grow from this.

Each Wednesday this month we will explore “What is Spiritual Friendship?”. Why is this so important to our dharma practice? How is it different from other friendships we have experienced in our life? What did the Buddha have to say about friendship? Are we connecting with others in a way that helps us to grow and develop towards awakening, as well as supporting others in their growth and development?

Join us to explore….this Wednesday…!

ALL ARE WELCOME!
