We decided to continue not having in person meditation and study group sessions on Wednesday evening.

Instead we will be meeting online. Join us by clicking on this Zoom link on Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm . We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Join us to explore….this Wednesday…!

All are welcome!

The Wheel of Life
The Animal Realm

This week we will continue on in our series of the Wheel of Life. We will be exploring the Animal Realm.

At first, this realm might appear quite ideal. The animals, both wild and domestic, seem to be getting along quite well. They are grounded and in touch with nature, never worrying about tomorrow. Yet on closer inspection, we find rigid routines and powerfully ingrained habits that are very predictable. Energy is funneled into plodding along to repeat the patterns that lead to pleasure and avoid pain. These habits may be external in the sense of getting up at the same time every day, eating the same foods all the time, wearing the same clothes and repeating the same interactions with others.

When so much energy is put into holding down habits and patterns to create an illusion of safety and stability, there is very little, or none at all, that goes into inquiry of our sense of self, or exploration of experience. Then, when a habit or belief is threatened or challenged, like a wild animal, we either fight or flee.

How can we recognize when the Animal Realm mentally has taken hold in us? Can we recognize unhelpful, unmindful, habits or beliefs that we continue to repeat? What can we do to help move ourselves back into the Human Realm so that we can continue to grow and develop in the Dharma?

Please join us this Wednesday as we continue our exploration of this ancient symbol that still glows like a beacon of light in a sometimes dark world.
