We decided to continue not having in person meditation and study group sessions on Wednesday evening.

Instead we will be meeting online. Join us by clicking on this Zoom link on Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm . We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Join us to explore….this Wednesday…!

Eight Verses For Training the Mind

This week we will continue in our series on the Eight Verses for Training the Mind. The fourth verse brings us right in to contact with some difficult people.

When I see ill-natured people,
Overwhelmed by wrongdoing and pain,
May I cherish them as something rare,
As though I had found a treasure-trove.

What is our habitual response when we come into contact with people who are behaving poorly, have bad manners, are highly reactive, or are ungrateful? What do we normally do when we are confronted with someone who has acted unethically or is chronically stubborn? Perhaps instead of turning away, avoiding them, rejecting them or keeping them as far away as possible we could open up to them with a sense of closeness and compassion. Can we see that they are suffering beings? Can we bear in mind that this person suffers from past negative actions, as we also do?

Our practice calls us to go even further. Can we truly cherish ill natured people and see that they are giving us an opportunity to grow! When cherished, they will help us to willing accept challenges, to train ourselves in caring, compassion, to be generous and patient. A treasure-trove is quite a find and can we see this in ill-natured people as they help us to see our working edge?
