We decided to continue not having in person meditation and study group sessions on Wednesday evening.

Instead we will be meeting online. Join us by clicking on this Zoom link on Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm . We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

Join us to explore….this Wednesday…!

Eight Verses For Training the Mind

Last week we saw in verse 4, other beings overwhelmed by heavy misdeeds or suffering” and to consider them as a priceless treasure.” Can we learn/relate from watching others struggling?
This week the bar is raised as we are now ‘out of envy’ being attacked or belittled;

“When ever someone out of envy does me wrong by attacking or belittling me,
I will take defeat upon myself and give the victory to others.”

How do we respond when we feel attacked? With tolerance and ‘confronting’ arising destructive emotions within us, and avert them before we hurt ourselves as well as others?
What would happen if we let go of our defenses and generously gave to another the space to be right?

The Dhammapada provides another angle into this practice in the chapter on Pairs. It states:

“Those who entertain such thoughts as ‘He abused me, he beat me, he conquered me, he robbed me, will not still their hatred.”
“Those who do not entertain such thoughts as ‘he abused me, he beat me, he conquered me, he robbed me, will still their hatred.”
“Not by hatred are hatreds pacified here in this world. They are pacified by love.
This is the eternal law.”
“Others do not realize that we are all heading for death. Those who do realize it will compose their quarrels.”

All are welcome as we continue to deepen our study and engagement with these ancient teachings.

“There are no higher teachings, only deeper understandings.” ~Sangharakshita
