Nagaloka Buddhist Center

Due to the COVID-19 Nagaloka is closed to the public. We decided best not to have any in person meditation or study group sessions on Wednesday evening or Sunday AM.

Instead we will be meeting online by Zoom at 6:45 pm to 8 pm if you would to join us. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

This Wednesday we complete the Brahma Viharas, the ‘Dwelling place of the Gods’ with a final look at Uppekha or Equanimity and its enemies of indifference.
As we enter into the Uppekha Bahavana, the practice of Equanimity, at each stage we reflect and hold a sense that all humans have both glad tidings and sorrows in their life. Reflecting on this seeming dichotomy with a sense of patient understanding, that we are in a process, a web of life that is continuously shifting and changing and that we have some agency over and are, at least in part, responsible for our life decisions.
Waking up to the conditionality ‘impermanence of all things’ and the changing possibilities’ of everyday existence, we lean towards positive, skillful self transformation attempting to respond to life with equal love, equal joy and equal compassion for all. In this way a deeper realization of the inter being of all life emerges. This awakening skillful transformation, using the tools of kindness, generosity and wisdom, is also found in the Four Noble Truths, The Threefold Way; Ethics, Meditation and Wisdom, and in the opening lines of the Dhammapada.

To start the evening, after introductions, Subhramani and Narottama will engage in a short conversation to address the fundamental principle of Buddhism that underpins and provides a foundation for all other Buddhist teachings.
Conditionality, Conditioned- co-production, The Causal Law, Dependent Arising, The Wheel and Spiral, all these and more are expressions of the Enlightened awake mind attempting to communicate with our unenlightened “asleep” mind. “All things arise and pass away depending on the conditions that support them” may seem simple to grasp in our surface consciousness, yet the depths of that teaching are beyond the everyday mind to get hold of. To fully understand the meaning of Conditionality you would be Enlightened.

Please join us for what could be an ‘Illuminating’ experience!
