Nagaloka Buddhist Center

Due to the COVID-19 Nagaloka is closed to the public. We decided best not to have any in person meditation or study group sessions on Wednesday evening or Sunday AM.

Instead we will be meeting online by Zoom at 6:45 pm to 8 pm if you would to join us. We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

All are Welcome
Envy and resentment: Who ? ME?
Please join us this week as we continue our journey with the Brahma Viharas and meet the near and far enemies of Mudita.
When our Metta, unconditional love, meets another’s happiness and good fortune, the natural healthy response is Mudita , meaning sympathetic joy.
Yet at times we are envious and perhaps resentful of another’s good fortune, the sometimes not so far enemy of mudita. The near enemy is more subtle and elusive, vicarious enjoyment. We welcome their happiness, yet inside we avoid any real connection with the person.
To help counter act both envy, and vicarious enjoyment, first recognize they are present. Then we need to pay attention to the person themselves, to try and appreciate what their experience of happiness and good fortune is really like.
With many meditation practices, as we move deeper in, qualities of mind can become more refined and perhaps challenging to identify. This is one reason that taking the time to check in with our emotional and mental states, if only to recognize what is going on, can allow for positive periodic adjustment to our ever changing minds. Breathe into the body and allow the breath to comfort and give ease as the days lengthen and Spring stirs.
