Due to the COVID-19 Nagaloka is closed to the public. We decided best not to have any in person meditation or study group sessions on Wednesday evening or Sunday AM.

Instead we will be meeting online. Join us by clicking on this Zoom link on Wednesday evenings, 6:45-8:00pm . We value Sangha (spiritual community) and feel it is important for us to have the opportunity to be together. We will use this time to meditation along with a short check in to see how we can best support one another. Plus the facilitator will continue on our Dharma theme offering everyone a focus for our practice. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our love and kindness for the wellness of all beings.

This week we continue with the Worldly Winds as we look into our experience of Fame and Infamy. This pair may also be recognized as being popular or having a bad reputation, notoriety and anonymity, being the center of attention or unseen in the shadows.

We will all feel these winds at sometime in our lives. Are we blown about and find that our mind is unsettled when we feel that we are perceived badly by others, when we feel unpopular or that others are unhappy with us? Do we strive to be “liked” on social media or strategize to be part of the popular group? Are we always thinking of what to say next so we are noticed and can gain what we hope to be positive attention?

The Buddha points out that worldly things grow and decline, arise and pass away, and that things and people move from prominence to decline. Finding our individuality, learning what our priorities are and what is most important to us in our lives will help us navigate a way beyond the swing of Fame and Infamy. Cultivating integrity, truthfulness, courage, mindfulness and metta will allow us to gain a healthy sense of ourselves that abides independent of what others may think of us.
