Nagaloka Buddhist Center, Portland, ME.
Nagaloka Buddhist Center is located at 51 Ocean Avenue, Portland, Maine 04103.
Nagaloka Buddhist Center offers an opportunity for individuals to learn the ancient tradition of Buddhism, and to learn meditation. Nagaloka encourages seekers to come and visit our Center to find out first hand the practice of Buddhism.
The historical Buddha lived 2500 years ago. Since that time various schools of Buddhism have developed. Through the Buddha’s teachings (Dharma), individuals learn how to open their hearts and grow in self-awareness and compassion. The Dharma is based on generosity, compassion and awareness.
Nagaloka is affiliated with the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO), a Buddhist movement that has been around for over 35 years with Centers all around the world. The FWBO approach to the practice of Buddhism is appropriate for our Western culture, and draws on all schools: the Theravada, the Mahayana, and the Vajrayana.
Nagaloka teaches two types of Meditation practices: Mindfulness of Breathing to calm the body and still the mind. The Metta Bhavana to develop and cultivate loving kindness for oneself and all beings.
